Father's Day Wines & Spirits

Father's Day is Sunday, so swing by to pick up something he'll really enjoy.

A necktie might look good but it's not delicious, and tools are useful but you have to use them. If you want to enrich Dad's leisure time, consider the following:

For the Dads who like Scotch: the Jura 12 Year Old Single Malt is both middle-of-the-road but off-the-beaten-path. It has a rich cereal and berry palate with just a smidge of smoky undertones. Like trail mix around the campfire. It comes from the Isle of Jura, which is just across the water from the more famous Islay (where the really smoky stuff comes from)

For the Dads who like Sports: Champagne Taittinger is sponsoring the World Cup, and we managed to nab a few of their limited edition commemorative bottles. It's the same classic Brut Prestige that we know and love from Taittinger, but the label (and box) make this a little extra prestigious for the soccer fan in your life.

For the Dads who like Bourbon: there's no need to overthink this one because Bourbon fans love a classic. The Four Roses Single Barrel is a whiskey that every Bourbon fan can sip and appreciate, balancing rich-smooth-sweet-spice in a classic package. And since it's a single barrel, each bottle can be a little different, but the folks at Four Roses only pick the best barrels to bottle in this line.

For the Dads who like Tequila: if your Dad is famous for his margaritas or other cocktails, this is not for that (we do have that though). Instead, we want to showcase something a little more precious that deserves to be savored on its own. The Arette Gran Clase Extra Añejo spends 4 years (!) in bourbon barrels, which is a year longer than required for the category. The result is complex, sweet and savory and worth every sip.

For the Dads who like Cab: the 2022 Faust Cabernet is a classic Napa offering from the Huneeus family (the makers of Quintessa). Dark fruit like cassis and cherry preserves with a little violet and espresso, perfect for steak. And we have it in magnums for a little added presence.

For the Dads who like something a little more Old World: Chateauneuf-du-Pape is a historic region and producer of some of France's greatest wines. The 2018 Domaine du Pegau Cuvee Laurence is exemplary, spending four years in old oak barrels before bottling. 8 years in, it's already drinking well with plenty of spicy jam and garrigue notes, but this is a bottle that Dad could enjoy looking at in the cellar for a long while yet.
