2007 Henriques and Henriques, Verdelho QG Single Vineyard Madeira Wine
Madeira, Portugal
Verdelho is meio secco—‘medium-dry’—its formidable acidity providing the structure and balance to make it the most approachable of all madeiras, highly versatile at the table. The wine was aged for 12 years in ancient casks at the H&H cellars, and can bre wonderful event during a meal, not just after! Pair with roasted nuts, aged ham and a wide variety of cheeses; terrines and pâtes; creamy soups; smoked or grilled salmon; an array of game (rabbit, chicken, squab, duck), wild boar and especially mushrooms. Founded in 1850 by João Joaquim Gonçalves Henriques, the firm began as a partidista, supplying wine to merchants while building an extensive stock of old vintages. In 1925, H&H became unique among producers by bottling and exporting Madeira exclusively from their own vineyards.
