2019 Nino Negri, Sfursat
Lombardy, Italy
Nino Negri is one of Italy’s most decorated estates, championing the Chiavennasca
clone of Nebbiolo and representing the height of Sfursat production. This is a limited-production wine made from Valtellina’s finest grapes, naturally dried using traditional methods. Sourced from prestigious vineyards like Inferno, Grumello, and Fracia, these vines thrive on the steep, south-facing slopes of the Retiche Alps in loose, gravelly soil at elevations of 900-1200 feet. After careful sorting, the grapes dry for 100 days before being crushed, macerated for 12 days, and briefly rested in stainless steel. The wine is then aged in French oak casks for 20-24 months, developing its distinctive depth and complexity.
