Sotol is a unique Mexican spirit distilled from Dasylirion Wheeleri, or Desert Spoon plant. So while mezcal drinkers may enjoy it, it has a very different profile. This Joven example from Oro de Coyame opens with a savory, salted meat nose with a touch of iodine, leather, and cranberry. The palate is surprisingly creamy but with a pleasant heat, notes of red fruit, and more smoky leather. Vegetal and complex, this Sotol is a fantastic example of a traditional craft spirit. Recommended for anyone seeking something unexpected and uncommon.
